A Little Homesick

Saturdays here are no different than Saturdays in the states. We aren't "working" today , although we have a to-do list that we want to work on. We woke up late (7:20) and Deacon slept in a bit (7:45). We just finished breakfast at 9:15...a breakfast of waffles with fruit topping, sausage, and coffee. The weather here is gorgeous in the mornings...in the 60's and mostly sunny. In the afternoon we will have rain.

But there is a difference. I don't know what it is...maybe I'm just pregnant and hormonal and nostalgic, but...

For example, there are no Sat. morning cartoons (at least in English). There is no college football on TV. There are no noise restrictions here so there is a constant state of window rattling Spanish music playing on the street. We don't have a yard for Deacon to run around in. It still just doesn't "feel" right. I miss going to the mall on a Saturday and just walking around. (there is a mall here, but it is 85% shoe stores) I miss the Saturday environment of Home Depot runs and matinée movies, and...I don't know.

Right now it just feels like something is wrong here. I don't feel very at home today. At the same time, the thought of leaving our home here to go back to the states for possibly 5 months sounds terrible too. We really are between cultures, between homes, between, between, between.

The good news is that this is just my state of emotions right now. This will pass. Tomorrow or the next day.

Tell me about your Saturday. What did you do? I want to hear about what all is going on in America today.

We looked at puppies today. We have picked one out that we named Emma. She's a 10-week-old tan/sable Austrailian shepard mix wtih green eyes. She is scheduled for spaying on Monday, and we can pick her up on Tuesday. Unfortunately, Mark is working, but he got to see the puppies last night and is OK with the choice.

Sorry, Australian. I can spell. Sometimes.

oh! Congrats! We are getting our lab spayed next week. I am not totally sold on the decision b/c I like the idea of breeding her, but just not here in Guatemala. Sounds like a fun Saturday! We ended up trying to take a picnic to the Zoo here (10 different animals, but free!) but as soon as we got there it started pouring rain. Oh, well. Another day.

I worked out at the local health club, which is in the manufactured downtown Flower Mound. I gassed up my wife's minivan. I grocery shopped. I folded laundry and put it up. I grilled dinner. I watched some college football (my team lost, ugh...but the game was exciting) and I went to bed.

Does it really sound that good?

Oh, Brent. You have no idea. Yes...that sounds that good. Even if its just the familiarity of it all.

Let's see.. Craig worked the concession stand at the high school for the band (one of our expected duties). I took Grayson to a bass lesson and waited for him at Starbucks and read a book about parenting. The boys worked in the yard for a bit. I took a brief nap and Grayson ahd a sax lesson (Mr. Musical). We ate hamburgers at Red Robin (YUMMY) and Reagan went to his girlfriend's house and was suckered into watching "The Notebook."

Sound fun??? (Congrats on the little girl!!!)

Oh, that does sound fun! One thing that I miss: Good brewed decaf coffee and coffee drinks.

They only sell Sanka instant here. We did find Folgers decaf to make here at home, but it really isn't very good.

um...why not get some fresh beans? I pay big bucks here for Guatemalan coffee. You're right at the source.

I'm a little late to the party on this post, but I've been having to work most Saturdays lately. Not much leisure to speak of.
